  10 The OpenSSL Project is a collaborative effort to develop a robust,

  13 href="http://www.netscape.com/eng/ssl3/">Secure Sockets Layer</a> (SSL v2/v3)
  14 and <a href="http://www.consensus.com/ietf-tls/ietf-tls-home.html">Transport
  15 Layer Security</a> (TLS v1) protocols with full-strength cryptography
  16 world-wide. The project is managed by a worldwide community of volunteers that
  17 use the Internet to communicate, plan, and develop the OpenSSL toolkit and its
  18 related documentation.

  21 OpenSSL is based on the excellent <a href="http://www.ssleay.org/">SSLeay</a>
  22 library developed by Eric A. Young and Tim J. Hudson. The OpenSSL toolkit is
  23 licensed under an Apache-style licence, which basically means that you are
  24 free to get and use it for commercial and non-commercial purposes subject to
  25 some simple license conditions.
